The Outer Southeast Farmer Training Project is a collaborative effort between Zenger Farm and the Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood Association, designed to support market gardeners and Community Supported Agriculture entrepreneurs in developing business and farming skills. The Outer Southeast Farmer Training Project is community based, in that the participants themselves decide and design their training curricula and networking opportunities. Using a collective action-reflection model for defining the project’s trajectory is at times more work than simply attending predesigned trainings, but is ultimately more empowering and tailored to fit the needs of resident farmers in Outer Southeast Portland.
